Jim Mernagh is the current 'boss', aided by
his wife Margaret, son Paul and
daughters Gillian and Angela. Jim is recognised by
many in the industry as having a great
eye for a horse. Paul has worked in a
number of studs in Ireland and the USA before joining
Coolamurry full-time and has been able to bring new
skills and innovative modern techniques to the
business.
The
stud has top class facilities on the farm to breed,
handle and prepare stock for sales and has developed
a significant status and reputation within the racing
industry with a history of producing from winning
families of racehorses
The
mares are mostly home-bred, from successful families
that have previously produced horses such as Deep
Bramble, top-rated chaser in Ireland in
1993, Seven Towers,
Indian Tonic and the outstanding
Cheltenham and Liverpool winner, Artic
Gale.
Jim
Mernagh identifies the horse's well-being as the
cornerstone of a successful National Hunt breeding
enterprise. The owner of Coolamurry has a long
association with producing horses and philosophically
points out that in his opinion - "the
horse business is common sense, its not science, but
you have got to mind your stock".
